Onassis AiR invites artists from around the world to apply for another year to the Onassis Foundation’s international artistic research and residency program. The process, research, and experimentation are at the core of the program, where participants, both emerging artists and established creators, are invited to deepen their practice without the pressure of presenting a final work.

We have enjoyed them, of course, at the Onassis AiR Open Days, where they present their research, while many have gone on to conquer the world stage with work that began in the program, such as Mario Banushi, Chara Kotsali, Fotini Stamatelopoulou, Marlene Monteiro Freitas, and Christos Papadopoulos, and participated in international exhibitions, such as Victor Ehikhamenor, Janis Rafa, Sister Sylvester, Eva Papamargariti, and Natalia Manta, or in concerts, such as Alexandros Livitsanos and Charbel Haber.

Based in Southern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, Onassis AiR encourages dialogue and the exchange of ideas directly related to contemporary issues. The program recognizes the need to respond to tensions and challenges emerging both in its immediate environment and in an ever-changing global landscape.

Community building is an integral part of the program: all Onassis AiR Fellows participate in a range of activities, such as peer-to-peer feedback workshops, organized visits, exchanges of research practices, and collective meetings, promoting the coexistence of artists in an environment of continuous exploration.

In the 2026/27 season, the program:
· Continues to focus on residencies aimed at creators from the broader field of applied arts (including fashion, sculpture, and design), the performing arts, and the field of digital arts.
· At the same time, it continues to support professionals who wish to develop their skills in technical support and production support in performing and digital arts projects through specialized Technical Residencies.
· Introduces a new possibility for conducting research and development projects in collaboration with Cavafy Archives.

The current Onassis AiR Open Call 2026/27 invites artists to apply for a ten (10) week residency program, which will take place in Athens between September 2026 and July 2027.

The residencies are organized in three cycles:
Fall (September 14, 2026 – November 27, 2026)
Spring (February 8, 2027 – April 16, 2027)
Summer (May 10, 2027 – July 16, 2027)
