The curators of the upcoming exhibition, SYN KATOIKISI, Chrysoula Skepetzi, and Hourik Torosian note:

“The only certainty for healthy cohabitation, if we attempt to interpret it sociologically, is that we must dissolve our certainties and ‘sign’ a mutually agreed contract. We must share our thoughts, leaving room for the expectations of the members of the group, and then face our steps together.

The definition of cohabitation is different for everyone. People with a strong need for social interaction may take sharing their free time with others for granted. For others, daily interaction may feel confining, and they may desire more time to themselves.

The methodological basis on which our cohabitation effort was built is the attempt at mutual approaches between artists, with the help of “interaction.” In applying this method, in this context, we are treated as a peculiar closed group, within which the concept of unity constitutes a unity of personalities under mutual influence. The common denominators are Art, Friendship, and Mutual Respect. The unifying element of all the works is the relationship between the artists, the dialogue, autonomy in work, and the development of Art in a familiar space, shaped like an apartment, where the creators are sincerely connected and the resulting joint exhibition is the result of the free process and joint effort that is the production of Art.

Kostis Kapelonis

Following its initial presentation at the 7th N.S. Art Festival at the House of Culture in Rethymno, the collective installation is moving to the House of Cyprus, in the belief that it will be equally well received and communicate effectively with the exhibition’s audience.

The installation includes multiple layers of visual information and expressive media, as the participating artists come from different fields of art. A special feature of the installation is the incorporation of household objects belonging to the artists, which form an integral part of the visual content and research framework of the exhibition.

Seven artists from Cyprus and Greece are participating:
