Curatorial note:

“Oracles. In the history of art, there have been movements that turned their gaze  inward, most notably Surrealism, which opened the path to dreams and the  subconscious, transforming painting into a medium for the revelation of desires  and the hidden mechanisms of the psyche. The work of Myrto Sakka is defined by  a distinctive artistic practice. Her representations draw elements from myths,  historical figures, and distant past events, weaving a surreal field where  mysticism, spirituality, and a multitude of symbols meet antiquity, historical  memory, and the cosmic. Each work is a scene infused with intense artistic inquiry.  It combines absolute precision of design with an enigmatic language and visual  paradoxes, shaping a narrative that unfolds like an oracle. Her visual oracles do  not provide direct answers but leave space for interpretation. They carry symbolic  and experiential weight, transforming trauma into an act of redemption.

“Whispers of the Dead”, 70 cm x 50 cm (2020)| Acrylic on primed medium-density fibreboard

Her oeuvre is organized into chromatic periods. Pink, red, blue, and yellow  dominate the background of each unit, shaping the atmosphere of the scene. The  austere figures that take center stage appear as contemporary two-dimensional  votive offerings, while her work is distinguished by the clarity of form and strict  organization. She borrows elements from figurative representation and the  discipline of black-figure vase painting, without imitating ancient models. Her  relation to antiquity is not limited to aesthetics but is transfigured into every  aspect of her artistic practice. Large wooden surfaces, saturated with acrylic paint,  impose on the viewer the need to stand in front of them and surrender to their  energy, transforming the act of viewing into a personal ritual of oracle-like  revelation and inner awakening.”
