In the middle of summer, the Onassis Stegi unveils the first events of the new season. A water-based meditation experience in the heart of Athens, Alan Turing brought to life through Łukasz Twarkowski’s explosive visual universe, a one-day Borderline Festival with an exciting lineup, the Soundwalk Collective with a new audiovisual installation making its world premiere, featuring the signature sounds of Jim Jarmusch, and Robert Icke’s sold-out Oedipus, returning for a second year at the Onassis Cultural Center.
To kick off the season, Stegi welcomes us to a new venue—the renovated Onassis Mandra on Dionysiou Areopagitou Street—with a visual and auditory experience that offers complete tranquility in the heart of the bustling city. Clinamen, by composer and visual artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, has been enchanting audiences since 1997 and, following stops at the Pinault Collection at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris in 2025 and the Park Avenue Armory in New York in 2026, is making a stop in Athens (September 25 through December 6). It invites us to synchronize with the sound of silence, creating a deep-blue aquatic landscape with hundreds of white ceramic bowls floating in three specially designed pools. The bowls meet, collide, and produce sounds, drawing us into a meditative journey. For the first time, the striking “Clinamen” takes on a new dimension as it is presented outdoors and surrenders to the shade, the air, the voices, the sounds, and the echoes of Athens, and to the power of the natural elements and weather phenomena—light, wind, rain—at the only surviving Athenian open-air theater from the Belle Epoque. A play that effortlessly captures our attention.’

The Borderline Festival returns on October 9 for a special one-day edition featuring three stages at Onassis Ready and an explosive lineup: Ricardo Villalobos, in collaboration with ReSolute (NYC), the leading exponent of minimal house and microhouse, making his first appearance in Athens in 12 years with a rare 4-hour DJ set. Nightmares On Wax, part of the legendary Warp Records roster, is undoubtedly one of the pioneers of the electronic trip-hop sound. Lebanese singer Yasmine Hamdan, who left an indelible mark on music-loving movie audiences with her haunting performance in the landmark film of the 2010s, Only Lovers Left Alive by Jim Jarmusch, is here to enchant us with her striking voice, blending traditional Eastern sounds with the energy of electro-folk pop. The internationally acclaimed Greek indie pop singer and songwriter Σtella, who is now signed to the iconic American record label Sub Pop, with an international career performing at the world’s biggest music festivals, is making a unique appearance in Athens at the compact version of Borderline, which has many more surprises in store.

Following ROHTKO and Respublika, Łukasz Twarkowski, having now conquered Europe’s major theaters and festivals, returns to the Stegi with Oracle (October 15–18), a gripping theatrical universe dedicated to Alan Turing, the code that changed history, the birth of Artificial Intelligence, and the dark sides of progress—but also about those who push boundaries, without hesitating to pay the price for their boldness. Theater, live film, powerful music, and true stories intertwine in an experience that leaves you breathless. Thermal and infrared cameras, mesmerizing soundscapes, and cinematic projections blur the lines between reality and illusion. Visually striking and conceptually provocative, the work reflects on Turing’s story, juxtaposing it with forgotten tales and biographies that haunt the margins of official history. A visually and dramatically explosive work about the cost of human transcendence and progress, by a creator who continues to push the boundaries of the theatrical experience.

From October 22 to November 1, 2026, the Soundwalk Collective will join forces with iconic independent filmmaker Jim Jarmusch for the world premiere of the new audiovisual installation The Future Doesn’t Need You at Onassis Ready. A cautionary title for a world that can go on without us. Jarmusch is putting down the camera for a while and returning to his other great passion: music, having already developed his own hypnotic guitar sound in recent years through the duo Sqürl. Following the mystical Correspondences with Patti Smith at Stegi in 2024 and the recent *Sonic Prayer with Patti Smith* for the Holy See Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, the Soundwalk Collective is once again collaborating with Stegi on a project exploring the melting of the glaciers and the unimaginable future this portends. At the heart of the installation lies a continuous guitar drone, performed by Jarmusch himself: an unstable, unresolved resonance, as if the glacier continues to pulsate even as it disappears. The installation is accompanied by a program of live concerts and performances featuring different artists each night, as well as film screenings curated by Jim Jarmusch, with works that return to the same pressing questions: what we leave behind, what is lost, what endures. The future may not need us. The present, however, demands that we listen to it now.

Finally, Robert Icke’s Oedipus, following last year’s sold-out run, returns to the Main Stage from November 12, 2026, through December 13, 2026. London’s West End, New York’s Broadway, and the Stegi Theater in Athens are just a few of the stops for this Tony and Olivier Award-winning production by the British playwright and director, who continues to create new local adaptations around the world, most recently in Germany. This Sophoclean drama from 428 B.C., exploring the relentless power of fate, is reinterpreted through the lens of public image, responsibility, power, and human limits. With undiminished intensity, sardonic humor, and scenes that teeter between political thriller and family tragedy, the production returns with an exceptional cast, featuring Nikos Kouris and Maria Kechagioglou in the roles of Oedipus and Jocasta, respectively. Charged with political, social, and existential tension, this electrifying retelling of the Oedipus myth returns as a must-see production. Advance ticket sales have begun, and seats are already limited.
The full season schedule and advance ticket sales for all productions will be announced in September, featuring new venues, new collaborations, and new experiences.
