Description
Recent developments in the fields of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Electromobility have introduced significant challenges to the Electric Power Distribution Network. The increasing share of RES in the energy mix has also necessitated the integration of energy storage units. These new units comprise systems employing advanced technologies, both in terms of their operation and their communication with the electrical grid, as well as with other stakeholders in the energy market.
Electric vehicles and their charging requirements are creating new dynamics on the consumption side. At the same time, High Voltage/Medium Voltage substations now fall under the jurisdiction of HEDNO (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator), while Health and Safety in the workplace remain key performance indicators for every company.
In response to contemporary educational trends and the advanced knowledge requirements arising from the transformation of the Company, HEDNO, in collaboration with the University of Western Macedonia, has established and organized the Professional Postgraduate Program (PPP) “Modern Electric Distribution Networks – HEDNO,” tailored to its specific needs and subject areas.
This program is among the first to be implemented under Law No. 4957/2022. HEDNO is one of the first organizations to participate in the establishment of a Professional Postgraduate Program, embodying the spirit of innovation that constitutes a core objective of the Company.
The PPP provides continuous, structured, and certified training, fully aligned with HEDNO’s strategic objectives. Both the Company and the trainees derive maximum benefit from these educational programs. Furthermore, through the PPP, a reliable and official repository of HEDNO’s network know-how is established and its knowledge base is enriched.
Simultaneously, the program serves as a tool for addressing technical issues and challenges within the network through Master’s Theses, creates an R&D nucleus for HEDNO, and constitutes a contribution by HEDNO to its employees and to graduate engineers, within the framework of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
Consequently, the proposed PPP is essential for HEDNO personnel, as well as for scientists wishing to participate in the anticipated implementation of the aforementioned objectives at both the Greek and European levels.
Finally, it is emphasized that the PPP is directly relevant to the academic field of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Western Macedonia, particularly with respect to the energy topics it addresses. To ensure the participation of instructors with high scientific competence in the relevant subject matter, with corresponding research and publication records, faculty members from other universities, distinguished scientists from HEDNO, visiting Professors, and specialized experts are invited to deliver lectures on specialized topics in the field.
