The Hellenic Society of Costume Design is organizing on Monday 5 May 2025, at 18:45, at the Cultural Space of the Vassilis Papantoniou Foundation

“Kanari 4”, in Kolonaki, the presentation of the book The Costume: An element of interpretation in the reading of theatrical discourse, by the Emeritus Professor of Set Design and Costume Design of the Department of Theatre, School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, set designer and costume designer Ioanna Manoledaki, published by Romi Publications.

The volume constitutes a valuable personal testimony of the director in relation to her ideas and interpretative choices, through some forty-two selected theatrical productions and one film. The author is motivated by the need to “rehabilitate” costuming and to project certain truths about her role, in place of misconceptions that apply nowadays, but also by the need to share “magical moments of creative happiness”, which she experienced while collaborating with important theatre companies and institutions ( National Theatre of Northern Greece, National Opera of Sofia, National Opera of Belgrade, National Opera of Slovenia, National Opera of Slovenia, National Lyric Stage, Experimental Stage of Art, Theatre of Kavala, Serres, etc. etc.), as well as with numerous artistic collaborators, technicians, assistants and students.

The publication offers a theoretical model for approaching the performative costume and the visual reading of the theatrical text.
