EMST | National Museum of Contemporary Art of Athens and Cité internationale des arts announce the launch of a residency programme for Greek visual artists working and residing in Greece. The aim of the programme is to encourage and facilitate their mobility while expanding their professional and artistic network.

For this first year, 5 three-month residencies are foreseen in Paris and specifically at the Cité internationale des arts – Marais Site.

Facilities include:

  • Place of residence and work
  • A monthly living stipend of €1,000
  • Support, meetings and networking opportunities with professionals in the field organised and coordinated by the Cité internationale des arts team
  • Flight from Athens to Paris and back

ELEGIBILITY AND SELECTION CRITERIA

To apply, the artist must:

  • Be a Greek citizen, working and residing in Greece
  • Be artistically active in the field of visual arts
  • Have graduated from a School of Fine Arts in Greece or abroad
  • Have participated in at least three institutional exhibitions (in a museum or kunsthalle or arts centre or non-profit space or public or private institution)
  • Have at least 3 years of professional experience in the field of visual arts

No age limitation.

The applications will be evaluated by the EMST curatorial team, which will draw up a shortlist of candidates and send it to the Cité des Arts for a final selection by renowned professionals.

Members of the selection and evaluation committees will pay particular attention to the following:

  • the artistic quality of the application file
  • the cover letter
  • the work proposal

TIMELINE

Application deadline: from 10 February to 9 March 2025 at midnight (GMT/UTC+1)

Results: second week of April 2025

Residency:

  • 5 May till 28 July 2025
  • 4 June till 28 August 2025 (2 residencies)
  • 4 July till 28 September 2025 (2 residencies)

Your file must submit the following:

  • Detailed CV (up to 4 pages) in English.
  • Artistic portfolio in PDF format -in English- including illustrations of works with full captions (up to 40 pages)
  • Video links with their codes and audio files (mp3, avi), where appropriate.
  • A letter of intent, in English, in which the applicants will explain the motivation of their artistic approach and their interest in taking part in the residency programme. Artists should explain why they want to participate in the residency programme in Paris and at the Cité internationale des arts, and how they think they will benefit from it (350 – 750 words).
  • If applicants have a specific research project they would like to propose, please provide details.

Applications that do not follow the above guidelines, formatting and word limits will not be considered. Multiple applications will not be accepted.
