The President of the Hellenic Open University, Professor Ioannis Kalavrouziotis, will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the Department of Spatial Planning and Development of the Faculty of Engineering of the AUTh, for his contribution to the environmental sciences.

The Degree Ceremony will take place on Thursday 7 March at 12:00, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Ioannis Kalavrouziotis| A Short Bio

Professor Ioannis Kalavrouziotis, originally from Kalavrouza in Aitoloakarnania, was born, grew up and lived his school years in Patras. He graduated from the Model Lyceum of Patras. In 1984 he completed his studies at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and in 1999 he was awarded a doctorate in environmental geochemistry from the Department of Geology of the University of Patras. He worked as an agronomist at the Ministry of Agriculture from 1988 to 2000.

His academic career began in 2002 with his election to the rank of Lecturer and in 2007 to the rank of Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Management & Natural Resources of the University of Ioannina. Since 2017 he holds the position of Professor at the HOU. Since then, Professor Ioannis Kalavrouziotis has held important administrative and academic positions such as Director of Studies of the Graduate Program “Waste Management”, Director of the Laboratory of Sustainable Waste Management Technologies, Dean of the School of Science and Technology of the HOU (2016-2022) and President of the HOU from October 2022 until today.

Professor Ioannis Kalavrouziotis is active in the research field of environmental geochemistry, reuse of liquid and solid waste, as well as in ancient water and waste management technologies (Chairman of the Management Committee of the International Water Association for Water in Ancient Civilizations).
