Lamia – Municipality of Agia: “The Paths of the Gods”,
a project for promotion of agricultural heritage
The Paths of the Gods, is the title of the project undertaken by the Mediterranean Environment Centre, with the support of the Municipality of Agia, the Management Board of Karla–Mavrovounio–Kefalovryso Velestinou–Pinios Delta, and the Network of tourism professionals of the Olympus-Kissavos region (OLKIS).
It is an effort that aims to promote the rural cultural heritage and identity of the Kissavos region while learning about the herbs and their use throughout the year, through a hiking and a cycling route.
The project includes the design and digital mapping of the 2 routes , the inventory of the herbs of the area and the necessary interventions and signage for safe access for visitors in all seasons. It is then planned to train local guides on the cultural heritage and the routes in order to enable them to guide school and tourist excursions.
The project will be implemented in the Pinios Delta, which combines the natural beauty of the landscape with easy access and existing infrastructure for tourism and education.
In the first phase, a site visit was carried out by the participants, the Municipality of Agia (N. Dangas), the Management Authority (D. Michalaki and G. Vergos) and the Mediterranean Environment Centre (Vivian Papapanagiotaki and George Lorantos) in order to find suitable routes.
The project is co-funded by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in the framework of actions for the study, preservation and promotion of intangible cultural heritage.
