Honorary Event for 43 Professors of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

43 Professors of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, who received the title of Emeritus in the year 2021, were honored at a special event held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 13.30 in the Ceremonial Hall of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The event began with the address by the Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Professor Nikolaos C. Papaioannou. The Rector refered to the important work and selfless contribution of the now Emeritus Professors, both to society and to the university, “where so many others who have not had the chance to experience them in the hall and enjoy the passion they have for Science and the Arts that they have been treating for decades”, he will say.

The Rector of the AUTH expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the Emeritus Professors for what they have taught us and even more so, that in the midst of such difficult circumstances of the last two years, they have stood by our side at every opportunity given to them, underlining that “It was not something simple and certainly not self-evident. You were there whenever we asked you to be there in order for the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki to rise to the occasion”.

Immediately afterwards followed the speech by the Emeritus Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Pedagogy of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Dimitrios Mavroskoufis, on the topic: “From the Past to History: my Odyssey and Ithaca”.

Mr. Mavroskoufis attempted to combine the general with the specific. In the first part of his speech he refered to the ways in which the past becomes History, emphasizing its re-enactment and the process of constituting individual consciousness in dialectical relation to the collective. He then refered to elements of his individual biography that influenced him throughout his life and shaped him as a man, teacher and scientist. In this way, his retrospective journey into the past, his personal ‘Odyssey’, will be articulated into a single whole with his ‘Ithaca’.

Afterwards, a ceremony was held to honour the Professors Emeritus.
