The wetland is a natural environment of great ecological value, as it retains fresh water throughout the year, thus serving as a place of shelter, feeding, as well as breeding grounds for local aquatic bird species.

The Kalloni Environmental Information Center / Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, organizes nature observation trips to the protected areas of the island, aiming to promote public awareness regarding the wetlands of Western Lesvos and the natural wealth of the Lesvos Geopark.

This time, the trip will take place in one of the most important wetlands of Northwest Lesvos, the Molyvos Water Reservoir (between Molyvos and Vafeio). Bird ringing will be a useful aid in the effort to get to know the species of birds wintering in the wetland area, and it once again co-organized with scientists from the Hellenic Bird Ringing Center.

The excursion to the Molyvos Water Reservoir will take place on Saturday, November 13, 2021, from 08:00 to 11:00. You can register in two groups, at 08:00 or 09:30, by phone: 22510-47033

Participants do not need to have prior experience in bird watching/ringing. The activity is addressed both to adults and children (6 years and over), lasts about 1 hour and is offered free of charge.

More information about the birds, the ringing and the protected areas in Lesvos is available on the website of KPEN Kalloni www.lesvosbirds.gr and on its Facebook page, as well as on the websites of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest and the Lesvos Geopark www.lesvosmuseum.gr , www.petrifiedforest.gr, www.lesvosgeopark.gr and their Facebook pages.
