The main objective of this agreement is to enhance international education based on the principles of equality, cooperation and mutual benefit, for the introduction of high quality education.

The two universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in July 2021, which resulted in the Establishment of the “Patras International Engineering Institute (PIEI), Fujian University of Technology” in order to further promote cooperation in student education, academic research, personnel development and cultural research based on friendly consultations and active exchanges.

The coordinator (on behalf of Greece) is Professor Dionysios Mantzavinos, Vice-Rector for Academic and International Affairs. The Board of Directors of the Institute consists of Professors: Nikolaos Avouris, Dean of the Polytechnic School, Efstratios Gallopoulos, President of the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics, Odysseas Koufopavlou, President of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Vassilios Costopoulos, President of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics and Athanasios Triantafyllou, President of the Department of Civil Engineering.

At the same time, a bilateral Greek-Chinese Cooperation Agreement for Higher Education was signed in an online event by the University of Patras and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with Chinese Universities. The University of Patras was represented by the Rector, Professor Christos Bouras and the Vice-Rector, Professor Dionysis Mantzavinos.

The agreement concerns the cooperation, through a number of educational actions between Greek and Chinese Universities. During the inauguration event, which was attended by the Minister and the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Ms. Niki Kerameos and Mr. Angelos Syrigos with the respective Body of China CEAIE, the President Dr. LIU Limin (CEAIE) with the presence of the ambassadors in Greece and China Mr. XIAO Junzheng and Georgios Iliopoulos, as well as representatives of Higher Education of the two countries, made a joint statement establishing an Advisory Committee for Greek-Chinese cooperation in Higher Education.

As stated by the Rector, Professor Christos Bouras, the signing of this agreement strengthens the extroversion and the international promotion -on a scientific and cultural level- of the University of Patras and the country in general.
