THE DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES OF CLIMATE CHANGE
“The geographical position of Cyprus and the impacts of climate change”

Climate change and its consequences will be the subject of the lecture at the Ierokipio Free University in Paphos. The speaker will be Mr. Panikos Trakkidis, Business Consultant, who will develop the topic entitled “Climate Change, Green Growth, Circular Economy“. The lecture will take place on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 7 p.m. in the Event Hall of the Multipurpose Centre of Geroskipou. The speaker will refer to climate change, which is mainly due to the increase in global warming, as a result of increased emissions of greenhouse gases from anthropogenic activities. In addition, reference will be made to international organisations, such as the UN, which in 1990, after the publication of the results of an intergovernmental committee of scientists that recommended an examination of the situation, sounded the alarm and led the effort to save the planet. The speaker will also mention the European Union, the most ardent supporter of these decisions, partly because of its structure and partly because of its cohesion and capacity for rapid decision-making. Mr Trakkidis will also analyse the example of Cyprus, where, due to its geographical location, it will be significantly affected by climate change. By exploiting some of its advantages of location and being a member of the European Union, it is able to create strategies that will help it to adapt to the new circumstances. For those attending, it is noted that all health and safety measures will be observed and a Safe Pass will be required.
