Memorandum of cooperation between the Hellenic Open University and the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN0 was signed by the president of HOU, Professor Ioannis Kalavrouziotis and Dr. Michael Benedikt, spokesman for CERN.

The objectives of the cooperation include the participation of the Physics Laboratory of HOU to a feasibility study on the development of a future Circular Collider (FCC) that will be operational from 2040 onwards at CERN. The future circular Collider will be much larger in size and energy than the current Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and is expected to be operational by 2100. Among other things, the feasibility study aims to document the geological, technical, environmental and administrative implementation of the accelerator and related infrastructure, as well as to support targeted research and development programmes.
