The University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts signed a General Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday 29 June 2022 with research, education and scientific excellence as the main pillars to make Cyprus a regional centre in these key areas. The Memorandum was signed on behalf of the University of Cyprus by the Rector, Professor Tasos Christofides, and on behalf of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, by the President, Professor Andreas Demetriou.

The Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Tasos Christofides, after welcoming the representatives of the Cyprus Academy, stressed the urgent need for cooperation between the two institutions since, as he noted, the vast majority of the members of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts are also members of the University of Cyprus. At the same time, said Christofides, the presence of Professor Andreas Demetriou at the helm of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, predicts the successful implementation of the provisions of the Memorandum, since Mr Demetriou is himself a member of the University of Cyprus community. The partnership between the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts and their joint position on important issues concerning education, science and the arts, concluded Mr. Christofides, will give new dynamics and send messages to society and the state.

 

The President of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, Professor Andreas Demetriou, expressed his satisfaction for the institutionalization of the cooperation with the University of Cyprus, while assuring the Rector that the Cyprus Academy will make every effort to highlight the important role of science in addressing social problems with specific scientific proposals to solve them.
