The research program, with the acronym MotherBreast, is being conducted by the University of Cyprus in collaboration with the Paediatric Society of Cyprus and the “Gift of Life” Foundation

The Centre for Medieval Arts & Rituals of the University of Cyprus organizes an International Scientific Conference on Lactating Breasts: Motherhood and Breastfeeding in Antiquity and Byzantium, with the aim of promoting research on motherhood and breastfeeding, and studying the identity of the breastfeeding woman and her interaction with the social, medical and artistic components of the phenomena of motherhood and breastfeeding from Antiquity to the Byzantine times.

The conference is held in the framework of the three-year research program titled “Lactating Breasts: Motherhood and Breastfeeding in Antiquity and Byzantium (4th c. BCE – 7th c. CE)” (https://ucy.ac.cy/motherbreast/el/). The research program, with the acronym MotherBreast, is being conducted by the University of Cyprus in collaboration with the Paediatric Society of Cyprus and the “Gift of Life” Foundation. The research group of the program consists of researchers from the University of Cyprus, as well as scientists from foreign universities.

The MotherBreast program is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus through the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation.
