The University of Patras is pleased to announce that following its participation in the QS Stars program of QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd, known for QS Rakings (Top Universities), it has received the distinction of four stars out of five. With this distinction, the University of Patras, the first institution in the country to be evaluated by an international house of recognized value, proves once again that it is a high-quality educational and research pillar for our country. The QS Stars rating system is an audit of a University’s performance, evaluating it on the basis of four categories of indicators, see. Main criteria (e.g. teaching), advanced criteria (e.g. innovation), learning environment and special criteria (e.g. curriculum dynamics). These categories are further broken down and our institution was assessed on indicators belonging to the areas of teaching, employability, research, internationalisation, infrastructure, innovation, inclusion and specific thematic curriculum criteria. QS Stars is not directly related to the ranking system, since an institution is not compared with others in order to obtain a place on a ranking scale, but is assessed in a multifaceted way to form a grade of its overall performance. It is a much more qualitative indication of the institution’s performance that is not based on general quantitative data alone, but is based on a rigorous methodology with a wealth of evidence. It examines in detail aspects of its operation, such as, for example, the number of PhD students, the number of sports and cultural facilities, the provision for students with disabilities, research performance, participation in the incubation of start-ups, etc. The participation of the University of Patras in this programme will be five years and the four-star label covers all Departments and all Programmes of Studies for the current year. The aim of the institution is soon, with the implementation of a plan of targeted interventions, is to move up to the highest rank.
