The Union of Mediterranean Architects (UMAR – Union of Mediterranean Architects – Architectes de la Méditerranée) in collaboration with the Association of Greek Architects – Panhellenic Association of Architects (SADAS – PEA), the Centre for Mediterranean Architecture (CAM), the School of Architecture of the Technical University of Crete (School of Architecture of Polytechnic University of Crete), the CRISIS Research Laboratory of the Department of Architecture of the University of Ioannina (arch. uoi) and the Greek Section of the UIA (UIA Greek Section of the International Union of Architects), are announcing the Modern Architectural Heritage of the Mediterranean: Common Grounds – Parallel Stories. “.
With the support of The Region of Crete, The Regional Development Fund of Crete, ΣΑΧ (Architects Association of Chania), TEE (Technical Chamber of Greece), TEE ΤΚΔ (Department of Western Crete), ΤΕΕ ΤΚΜ (Department of Central Macedonia) and ΤΜΕΔΕ (Engineers and Public Works Contractors Fund).
Over sixty architects from the Mediterranean and the wider region, researchers, academics and distinguished professionals will meet for the first time to discuss the modern architectural heritage of the Mediterranean, the history we share and the differences defining the multiple identities of our recent past.
On the afternoon of Saturday 12 October, the conference hosts guest lectures by Michelangelo Sabatino, Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology and Jean-François Lejeune, Professor at the Miami School of Architecture.
The conference will take place in Chania on October 12-13, 2024 and is organized in the context of the UMAR General Assembly in Chania, hosted by SADAS-PEA and celebrating the 30th anniversary of UMAR.
Attendance is open to the public. The proceedings will be conducted in English.
