Under the leadership of Associate Professor Erato Hatzisavva, Dean of the Athens School of Fine Arts, and Professor Ioannis Messinis, the School will award the title of Honorary Doctorate to the internationally renowned Greek-Australian artist Stelarc (Stelios Arkadiou), in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the visual arts.

Stelarc’s pioneering work, focused on the human body, technology, and experimental performance, has had a profound impact on artistic and academic communities internationally.

Born in Cyprus and raised in Melbourne, Stelarc is an Australian visual artist and performer. Until 2007, he was a principal research fellow at the Digital Performing Arts Research Unit at Nottingham Trent University (England), and he currently continues his research work at Curtin University in Western Australia. Stelarc gave his first lecture at ASFA in the Master’s Program in Digital Arts in 1999.

The award ceremony will take place in Athens, in the amphitheater of the Athens School of Fine Arts Library, on November 7, 2025, at 7:45 p.m.

The honoree will be introduced by the Rector, Associate Professor Erato Hatzisavva, the Vice Rector for International Relations and Outreach, Associate Professor Ioannis Melanitis, and Dr. of Art History – Museologist and Curator Katerina Koskina, member of the Board of Directors of ASFA.
