The Hellenic Maritime Museum is organizing the 14th Pan-Hellenic Conference of Maritime Museums, which will take place on April 24 and 25, 2026, at the museum’s building in Marina Zeas, Piraeus.
The conference is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture.
With the theme “From the Past to the Present: Contemporary Museum Practices in the Presentation of Maritime Cultural Heritage,” the conference focuses on the role of maritime museums in the modern era and the need to redefine their relationship with the public.
The aim of the event is to strengthen cooperation and networking among Greek maritime museums, as well as to exchange experiences and best practices for the preservation and promotion of our maritime heritage. Representatives of maritime museums, cultural organizations, and institutions from across Greece and abroad will participate in the proceedings.
During the first session, academics and museum professionals will explore this specific theme, focusing on issues such as digitization, the use of new technologies, and enhancing the visitor experience.
The keynote speakers for this session are Mr. Paddy Rodgers, Director of the Royal Museums of Greenwich, and Dr. Captain Juan Escrigas Rodríguez, Director of the Museo Naval Madrid.
The second and third sessions are dedicated to Greek maritime museums, and the presidents or directors of these institutions will present their work and activities, as part of a lively dialogue that strengthens connections among participants and promotes the outreach of maritime museums.
The conference proceedings will be open to the public, and there will also be an option to attend remotely via a link.
