The Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy, the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki, the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki and the G. Konstantinidis Archive present the exhibition “In the same city: Christians and Jews in Thessaloniki”, at the exhibition venue of The Hellenic Parliament, Vassilisis Sofias 11 (entrance allowed from Sekeri Street).

The exhibition, which aims to highlight the atmosphere of Thessaloniki in the late 19th and early 20th century through unpublished historical documents, was initially presented in Thessaloniki in three cycles: It started in March 2022 at the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki, with the theme of urban society and culture; then the second cycle, on education and sports, was presented at the Philoptochos Brotherhood of Men of Thessaloniki; it was completed in December 2022 at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, where trade and entrepreneurship in the city in the late 19th and early 20th century were presented.

In its overall presentation and transfer to Athens, visitors will have the opportunity to tour Thessaloniki in the late 19th and early 20th century and get to know the city’s bourgeois – Jews and Christians – through their common presence in culture, education, sports, commerce and entrepreneurship. The documents in the exhibition come mainly from the extremely rich archive of Georgios Konstantinidis and the valuable collections of the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki.

The opening of the exhibition In the Same City: Christians and Jews in Thessaloniki will take place on Saturday 17 February 2024 at 19:00. The exhibition will run until the end of April 2024 and will be accompanied by educational programmes and parallel events.
