On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the Union of Crete with Greece, the Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy and the National Research and Study Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” are co-organizing a two-day conference entitled “Parliamentarism and the organization of the state in the Cretan State (1898-1913)“. The two-day conference will take place in Athens at the Senate Hall (Greek Parliament) on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 November 2023.
At the same time, the Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy will present the exhibition “Politics and Society in the Cretan State, 1898-1913” at the exhibition hall of the Hellenic Parliament, 22-24 Amalias Avenue (entrance from Souris Street).
The two-day conference will take place in Athens at the Senate Hall (Greek Parliament) on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 November 2023. The period of the Cretan State was, on the one hand, an intermediate stage between the Ottoman administration and the incorporation of Crete into the Greek state, and on the other hand, the opportunity for the development of institutions in all fields of the functioning of a state: constitutional, administrative, judicial, economic, educational, health, etc. In the framework of the two-day conference, renowned scholars who study this period will contribute to the scientific debate.
