The Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy in cooperation with the Domna Samiou Folk Music Association, organize an event dedicated to the life and work of Domna Samiou, as part of the cycle of parallel activities of the exhibition “Rise my soul”!… Images and music of the refugees of ’22“. The event will take place on Wednesday, 11 October 2023 at 19:00, in the Senate Hall of the Hellenic Parliament.

In the first part of the event will speak:

Dionysis Savvopoulos, songwriter, chairman of the scientific committee of the exhibition “Rise my soul”!… Images and music of the refugees of ’22, about Domna Samiou and her presence at the “Rodeo” and “Kyttaro”,

Lambros Liavas, Professor of Ethnomusicology at the Department of Music Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, who will refer to the life and analyse in detail the work of Domna Samiou, and

Thanos Tsaknakis, philologist, member of the Board of Directors of the Domna Samiou Folk Music Artistic Association, will speak about the vital contribution of Domna Samiou to the Greek tradition.

The event will be addressed by Evanthis Hadjivassiliou, Secretary General of the Foundation of the Hellenic Parliament, Professor of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The event will be moderated by Socrates Sinopoulos, associate professor at the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia.

The second part of the event will feature a musical tribute by the Domna Samiou Choir, taught and directed by Katerina Papadopoulou.
