Presentation-musical event with tribute to the “Thouria of Pavlos Vlastos” co-organized by the Holy Metropolis of Kissamos and Selino, the municipality of Kissamos, the municipality of Platanias and the Orthodox Academy of Crete (OAC), on Saturday, March 25 at 19:00, with a rich program that will be presented by the choir of Traditional Music Of The Conservatory of the Holy Metropolis of Kissamos and Selino, under the direction of Georgios Chachlakis. The event is about songs recorded or composed by Pavlos Vlastos, a Rethymno scholar and musicians, who rescued all traditions from thurians in order to inspire our people and rise up against the Turkish yoke. He is considered the first Cretan folklorist, who recorded, apart from demotic songs, other songs and those that had been adopted by the Cretan people although they were not folk creations. Pavlos Vlastos had apprenticed with the Great Teacher of Byzantine music Constantine Psaroudakis and perfected his musical knowledge in Constantinople. He was a teacher and Grand hieropsaltis in Heraklion and from the revolution of 1866 onwards he participated in military organizations, which helped the fighters with the shipment of munitions and were engaged in the care of refugees.

The Chronicle of the revolution will be presented by Ioannis Skalidis, a lecturer at the Department of Political Science of the University of Crete, while Rizitika of the revolution will be presented by the Society of Rizites Kissamos “Kissamos”. The event will be accompanied by musicians Dimitris Kollintzas (Kanonaki), Ilias Vlamakis (Lyra), Aris Zouridakis (Lute), Giorgos Georgilas (percussion), while Dr. Konstantinos B. Zorba, General Manager of the OAS.
