An inspection of the maintenance and restoration project of the State Conservatory building in Thessaloniki, after the appointment of the contractor, was carried out by the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni at the head of an official team.
As Lina Mendoni said, “Our goal is to give the Conservatory a modern, functional and universally accessible building. After the completion of the project, the State Conservatory Thessaloniki – the only state conservatory in the country – will return to the radically restored building to continue its important educational and cultural work. The Ministry of Culture, through its competent services, is currently implementing the largest cultural infrastructure programme in Thessaloniki, with the restoration and enhancement of important monuments of all periods, ancient, Byzantine and modern, but also with projects for the transformation and modernisation of the city’s cultural institutions, with a total budget of more than 50 million euros. And in the case of Thessaloniki, we are following our strategic plan: The restoration of historic and monumental buildings and their integration into the cultural life of major urban centres”.
The Minister of Culture was accompanied to the autopsy by the General Secretary of Culture George Didaskalou, the Head of the Service of Modern Monuments and Technical Works of Central Macedonia Sofia Christoforidou, the President of the Board of the Conservatory Nikolaos Avdelas, the Director of the State Conservatory Thessaloniki Georgios-Iulios Papadopoulos, as well as officials of the Ministry of Culture.
