The Ministry of Culture and Sports is proceeding rapidly with the modernization and energy upgrading of the cultural uses building of the European Cultural Centre of Delphi. After the maturation of the necessary studies, the Ministry of Culture and sports included the implementation of the project, with a budget of 10.609.000 euros in the resources of the Recovery Fund.

As Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni stated, ” for the Ministry of culture, the European Cultural Centre of Delphi, which is hosted in the unique archaeological site of Delphi, plays an important role in international cultural events, acting as the navel of European culture. The inclusion of the project in the appropriations of the Recovery Fund ensures its completion, by the end of 2025, on a specific timetable. With the modernization of its structures and its energy upgrade, the European Centre of Delphi will be an international venue for cultural events of high quality, while at the same time it will function as a development resource of greatest interest for the wide region. The project, which was included by the Ministry of Culture in the Development Fund, together with the major projects currently being carried out within the archaeological site, contribute decisively to the preservation of the character of Delphi as a reference point for World Culture. Since its establishment in 1977, under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and sports and under the auspices of the Council of Europe, it has been developing common cultural activities that unite the peoples of Europe. The European Cultural Center of Delphi has organized top cultural events, the meetings of ancient drama, which highlighted Delphi as the main place of contact, fermentation and coupling of ancient drama with the modern world, and of the historical theatrical tradition with its interpretative approach and contemporary artistic creation. The last major event at the RSPCA was the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the ratification of the convention for the protection of the cultural and Natural Heritage of UNESCO. The project will be completed in 2025, with the implementing agency the Directorate of studies and execution of projects of museums and cultural buildings of the Ministry of Culture.”

According to the planning of the project, the existing uses are preserved in the basement and on the ground floor of the building. The premises are modernized and repaired in their entirety. As far as the auditorium is concerned, it will remain in its current function, but modifying the seating arrangement and the position of the control room. The new layout ensures the presence of more people, while new translation booths are being built to meet modern needs. With the installation of a lift, the stage becomes fully accessible to the disabled.

All elements of the load-bearing structure are reinforced with reinforced concrete and demolition and dismantling are carried out on an extensive scale. The entire stonework of the ground floor is reconstructed, the window frames are replaced. The floors are reconstructed and invested. For the convenience of people with disabilities, a lift is placed in the stairwell of the central entrance, as well as an elevator for the vertical communication of the premises. The sanitary areas are remodeled and the Electromechanical Facilities are modernized and energy upgraded.
