In this publication, Nikos Zias, Professor Emeritus of Art History at the University of Athens and an excellent connoisseur and scholar of Fotis Kontoglou’s work, captures with scientific precision the artist’s creative process and his catalytic influence on most of the painters of the Generation of the 1930s, as well as his general contribution to Greek art of the 20th century. In particular, it presents and analyses the major works of the painter and his influence on the artist’s impact and influence on the entire Greek oeuvre.

The major iconographic sets he created in churches throughout Greece, portable paintings, secular painting, and book illustrations. Fotis Kontoglou, one of the most important Greek painters and hagiographers, highlighted through his texts and teachings, but mainly through his work, the aesthetic value of Byzantine art and supported its continuity and its importance in the formation of modern Greek painting.
