(editors Katerina Dede, Leonidas Kallivretakis, Lina Louvi, Elias

Nikolakopoulos, Sotiris Rizas) on Tuesday 18 October 2022, at 18:30, at

Amphitheatre “Leonidas Zervas” of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (King’s

48 Konstantinou Street, Athens).

The volume presents all the party formations that were represented

in the Parliament in the period 1844-1967, with the aim of tracing the continuity of the

of the party phenomenon as a lever of democracy and to highlight the gradual

its mutations. The writing of 135 articles, which include commas,

parliamentary groups, and coalitions of parties, undertook forty-eight

historians and political scientists using primary and secondary sources

sources.

Not only the parties are described, but also the particular dynamics of each era

that prompted their creation, while also offering a vivid depiction of the

greek political evolution as a means of reacting to global reforms and

changes. Thus, the reader has the opportunity to get in touch with the overall story of the

of the political party as a key factor in the Greek state, from the

its early forms until its emergence as a key pillar of the

representative democracy. From person-centred, local political factions

to the organisation of multidimensional national parties as a means of expressing new ideas,

the turbulent course of the parliamentary party phenomenon reflects the

the very course of the Greek state.

The event is dedicated to the memory of Elias Nikolakopoulos.
