The thirty-fourth issue of Poetics, under the inspired direction of Haris Vlavianos, is the final issue of a journal that has marked and mapped through its pages the literary movements in Greece and abroad.

In addition to the pages devoted to poetry or its translation, Poetics of Autumn-Winter 2024 focuses on surrealism and its extensions beyond the visual arts, while Roderick Beaton’s essays on Lord Byron’s life in Greece stand out.

If one reads carefully between the lines of these 326 pages, one will find, in addition to the high poetic spirit and scholarship, a clearly emotionally charged atmosphere, which is sealed by the opening note by Haris Vlavianos:

“All good things must come to an end. This is the last, farewell issue of Poetics. Rich and interesting, as always, it can be read as the epitome of a project that has flourished for more than three decades, as a summary of a journey through language-in its purest and most powerful form-as a repository of thoughts and feelings fleshed out in words […]

When a magazine closes, it is now part of the history of the literature of its place. Future scholars will judge its contribution. I would like to believe that they will evaluate it positively.”
