In the new episode of the series Art in the Spotlight, the curators of the exhibition “In the Glorious Threshing Floor: Missolonghi 1826, Exodus” are featured.

Also participating are archivists Anna Koulikourdi and Katerina Zografou from the General State Archives, and historian Evi Kapoli and archivist-librarian George Stavratis from the National Library of Greece.

The discussion follows the sections of the exhibition and focuses on the events leading up to the Exodus, the role of Missolonghi in pre-revolutionary Greece, as well as the organization, institutions, and significance of printing houses and the press. It highlights the significance of Lord Byron’s arrival and the participation of the Philhellenes in the Siege of Missolonghi, while also presenting the daily lives of the residents during the sieges and the preparations for the Exodus.

Finally, the global impact of the besieged forces’ defeat is highlighted, as well as the heightened interest among Europeans in revolutionary Greece sparked by the Exodus, the wave of refugees, the fate of the prisoners, and the liberation and reconstruction that followed.
