The National Library of Greece (NLG) presents the Special Exhibition “From Science Fiction to the Reality of Artificial Intelligence: Common Ground, Challenges, (Un)certainties.”
The journey from Mary Shelley’s Promethean man to the posthuman of Artificial Intelligence forms the central theme of this exhibition of materials from the NLG’s Lending Collection. In this spirit, texts from the genre of science fiction (SF) engage with contemporary philosophical and social thought on issues of Artificial Intelligence (AI), in an attempt to explore the common ground, the challenges, the (un)certainties, and the common questions that consistently resurface along this path.
Does God play dice with the universe? When does the creation surpass the creator? Ultimately, is the world governed by order or randomness? New Wave, hard sci-fi, cyberpunk, Afro-futurism, space operas, ecological utopias, dystopian stories, contemporary philosophy, and social research all attempt to provide answers from different perspectives, while also offering their own commentary on a host of other related dilemmas.
