The National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum presented with great success the catalogue of the exhibition “URBANOGRAPHY”. The life of the city in the 1950s-1970s” on Monday 27 November at 18.00 at the Onassis Foundation Amphitheatre, National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum.

The exhibition was inaugurated on 21 June 2023 (more than 18,000 visitors to date) and will run until 3 March 2024. Greek society experienced profound changes after the war, so significant that they affected every cell of urban life. The exhibition focuses on urbanization, reconstruction, migration, the emergence of urban culture, spectacle and consumption. The participating artists follow the city and the changes in its everyday life, attempting to understand and negotiate with it, sometimes accepting it and feeling safe within it, and sometimes conflicting with many of its manifestations. The exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, prints, installations, photographs and film excerpts.

The catalogue – entirely consistent with the concept of the exhibition – highlights the experiential approach, the encounter and the dialogue that develops between the works of art and the visitors in the context of a concept that links the past with the present. It includes original critical texts written by the authors specifically for “Urbanography”, illuminating from different perspectives, sometimes parallel, sometimes eccentric and sometimes complementary, the historicity, the visual interpretation and the dynamics of the urban experience in post-war Greek art. The publication incorporates views of the exhibition space, photographs of the exhibited works, as well as snapshots of the films shown in the exhibition space.
