On April 14, 1827, the Third National Assembly of Troizina elected Ioannis Kapodistrias, a native of Corfu, as Governor of Greece for a seven-year term.

Kapodistrias accepted and began his journey from Geneva, Switzerland, where he had been living since 1822. After several stops along the way, he arrived in Greece in January 1828.

His belongings were packed into trunks that accompanied him on his momentous journey. The large, medium, and smaller trunks—some older, some newer—held the new Governor’s belongings, arranged according to their contents and destination.

The trunks of Kapodistrias trace his journey and reveal the modes of transportation of his era.
