The Ministry of Internal Affairs (Macedonia & Thrace Sector), the Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy and the Epirus Center of Thessaloniki present the publication Music from Epirus (series “Music Map of Hellenism”), on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 19:00, at the “Nikolaos Martis” Hall (Administration Building, 54123, Thessaloniki).
They are going to talk about the book:
– Vassilis Dalkavoukis, Professor, Department of History and Ethnology, Democritus University of Thrace,
– Yorgos Kokkonis, associate professor, Department of Music Studies, University of Ioannina | scientific editor, selection of audio material for the volume – Nikos Dionysopoulos, researcher | editor of music publications.
The scrapbook presents the musical culture of Epirus, a tradition both in force and in progress. Through the texts, an approach to history is attempted in connection with the physical geography and the anthropogeography of the area, but also a presentation of the musical geography and the celebration. The publication is accompanied by CDs in which characteristic songs of Epirus are recorded, with the majority of the sound material coming from new recordings, which highlight local “schools” and musical practices, as well as “classic” recordings.
The album Music from Epirus is part of the Music Map of Hellenism series of albums published by the Hellenic Parliament Foundation with music from the wider regions of Hellenism.
