The National Library of Greece (NLG) and the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation are organizing a guided tour as part of the artistic bookbinding exhibition “Evangelia Biza – Unfolding.”

The guided tours will take place on Saturday, June 6, with the first tour starting at 12:00 p.m. and the second at 1:00 p.m., at the MIET Bookstore in Thessaloniki (11 Tsimiski Street). The tour will be led by Giorgos Boudalis, visual artist and head of paper and book conservation at the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki.

The exhibition is dedicated to the multifaceted work of Evangelia Biza (1963–2023). Although her work is typically classified within the field of artistic bookbinding, it actually extends into the broader world of visual arts.

Evangelia Biza’s work, which has rightly attracted attention not only at the national level, is characterized by diverse and sometimes conflicting assumptions. With a solid foundation in bookbinding, a deep understanding of the rules governing the art, and absolute respect for them, yet at the same time with ingenuity and innovation, she was not afraid to stray from the beaten path. She experimented with techniques, creating fully functional books with new structures, and always worked with a focus on achieving perfection in execution. While honoring the classical tradition and at the same time showing a clear inclination toward modernism, she created her own personal style, never repeating herself over the years.
