Opportuna Publications presents in Patras the collective volume Cavafy in his time: 32 essays, which has just been published, edited by Takis Kagialis, Professor of Modern Greek Literature and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Extroversion at the Hellenic Open University.
The aim of this collective project is the historical reconstruction of Cavafian poetry and the integration of the poet and his work into the cultural context of their time. The thirty-two original studies that make up the book focus mainly on the lifetime of C.P. Cavafy (1863-1933). Their aim is to drastically reassess the historical and cultural data concerning the production, as well as the initial reception and promotion of the poet’s work in Greece, Egypt and Europe.
The presentation of the book will take place on Thursday 3 April 2025, at one o’clock at noon, in the conference room of the “Byzantinon” Hotel (106 Riga Ferraiou, Patras).
It is the closing event of the research meeting “”In an old book”: C.P. Cavafy and the art of reading”, which will be held in Patras, on 2 and 3 April, by the Laboratory of Archival Documents & Press of the Department of Philology of the University of Patras in collaboration with the Cavafy Archive of the Onassis Foundation (https://www.onassis.org/el/whats-on/in-an-old-book-c-p-cavafy-and-the-art-of-reading).
