Under the theme “Literature Beyond Borders” Bulgaria, the guest of honor at the 22nd Thessaloniki International Book Fair, has designed, in collaboration with ELIVIP, a multifaceted program in direct dialogue with Greece, reflecting the contemporary literary landscape of our neighboring country, both in writing, translation, and illustration, as well as in the professional sphere and the book market.

Over the past decade, Bulgarian literature has been gaining increasing international visibility. Prominent voices in contemporary Bulgarian fiction are gaining worldwide recognition, and numerous translations are being published in various languages.

Bulgarian literature takes pride in Georgi Gospodinov’s International Booker Prize (2023), as well as in Rene Karabash’s selection for the shortlist of the same prize (2026). Over the past three years, dozens of novels, poetry collections, and short stories have been published in many languages around the world.

Bulgarian authors and their translators are gaining wider recognition both at home and abroad through EUPL awards and PEN nominations, while talented illustrators are participating in major art events and international book fairs.

The full program for the 22nd Thessaloniki International Book Fair has been posted on its website https://thessalonikibookfair.gr/programme/.
