Among the first artists, who were active in Greece in the first decades after the establishment of the new Greek state, is Eleni Boukouri – Altamoura (Spetses 1821/1824 – 1900). She is the first Greek educated painter and a forerunner of the feminist movement in Greece.

Her life was eventful, her works that have survived are few. Thus, each new work that is located contributes to the fuller presentation and study of her artistic creation and enriches the gallery of the beginnings of modern Greek art.

In recent years, the researcher of modern Greek art, Mr. Dimitris Papageorgopoulos, identified and brought to Greece from Italy three signed and hitherto unknown works of hers, which are of multiple interest, for their subject matter and their style and for other reasons . A fourth work comes from the heirs of the painter Sofia Laskaridou. The presentation of the paintings will be undertaken by the Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Ioannina, Mrs. Dora Markatou.
