The Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens presented the solo exhibition titled “Promise” by Karolina Krasouli, curated by Christoforos Marinos, art historian, from 25 November 2021 to 23 January 2022 in the Arts Centre of the Municipality of Athens. This is her first exhibition in Greece, after two ones in France, in 2016 and 2020. Her canvases in pastel colours, sewn together, refer to windows, doors, books and envelopes, hanging from walls or standing upright on the floor. The central theme is the book as object and landscape, recreating the atmosphere of an old bookshop or library, with the invaluable tools of a writer (one thinks of the handmade cards where Roland Barthes used to take notes). Krasouli’s works are like products of haute couture, coloured, folded, sewn and ironed to “express the innocence of the mind”, to remember Agnes Martin’s comment on the 30 silkscreens from the series On a Clear Day (1973).
