The exhibition of artworks entitled “MEMORY GAPS” focuses on the engagement of young artists with issues of collective and individual memory, historical record and social differences.

The exhibition is the result of the process of teaching and immersion in contemporary art at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University. The exhibiting artists present works that explore the notion of the “memory gap” as a phenomenon that takes on a dimension in both individual and collective realms.

Through a free approach to the subject, the artists were invited to present their position on the broad concept of the memory gap, attempting to highlight the multiple causes that give rise to the phenomenon, as well as the impact that the loss of our collective memory has on the contemporary political and social life of our country. Sometimes through more personal approaches and sometimes through more collective reflections, the artists in the exhibition attempt to demonstrate silences and misconceptions of contemporary history and to show how collective memory is constructed and manipulated. In this way, the exhibition, as a collective project, ends up being directly relevant to each viewer, inviting them to reflect and renegotiate their role in today’s society.
