On the occasion of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the Athens Olympic Museum hosts the third solo photography exhibition by Nikos Zikos titled Behind the Flame. It is a photographic documentary that brings to light snapshots of contemporary top-ranking Greek athletes and captures the pain, the effort, the difficulties and emotions that accompany qualifying for the Olympic Games.

With the support of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the help of the gymnastics champion in Vasiliki Millousi, Nikos Zikos photographed more than 25 athletes; among them being the Olympic gold medalist in the rings Lefteris Petrounias, the gold medalist in the pole vault Katerina Stefanidi, the cyclist Christos Volikakis, Panagiotis Gionis, table tennis athlete with four participations in the Olympic Games, Voula Papachristou, triple jump athlete with two gold medals in the European Under-23 Championship, and Emilia Tsoulfa, gold medal winner in 2004, who returns with 20-year-old Ariadne Spanaki to represent Greek sailing in Tokyo in category 470.

The photos of the exhibition are available through the album of the same name ‘Behind the Flame’, which is available for sale online at the official e-shop of the event http://behindtheflame.gr/, and its proceeds will be donated to athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics and are not supported by any sponsorship or other type of financial support.
