An impressive collection of rare books, manuscripts, documents and engravings will be auctioned by VERGOS Auctions on Wednesday, June 9 at 5.30 pm. at the Athens Plaza Hotel. The auction will also be broadcast live on the website www.vergosauctions.com.

In the spirit of the 200th Anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821, the auction house provides to the public the opportunity of obtaining important documents related to the historical events, such as a collection of 17 letters and other documents written by Markos Botsaris and members of his family. An autograph Letter of support for the Cretan Revolution (February 9, 1867) by the great French poet and philhellene Victor Hugo is of exceptional historical interest as well. Among the travel books to be auctioned is also a copy of the famous Voyage à Athènes et à Constantinople by the French traveler and painter Louis Dupré (Paris 1825), which contains 40 exquisite large hand-painted lithographs that reflect the artist’s love for Greece and its people.

The rich auction also includes rare publications that cover a wide range of subjects, such as Greek language and literature, education, religion, philosophy, science, etc., maps, drawings and watercolors, period photographs and a wide range of 19th century engravings, folk lithographs and posters.
