This year, 16 boxes of the ‘robola’ variety and 25 boxes of the ‘malagouzia’ variety were collected, in contrast with last year’s 9 and 14 boxes produced, respectively.

The harvest of the white varieties recently took place in the urban vineyard of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, with almost twice the production compared to last year. The Mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, on whose initiative the vineyard was created in 2013, was also present at the harvesting process.

Employees of the green sector but also students of Agriculture and Forestry who do their internship in the Municipality of Thessaloniki came to the vineyard for the harvest of the white varieties (robola, malagouzia). This year’s production was almost double that of last year; in particular, 16 boxes of the ‘robola’ variety and 25 boxes of the ‘malagouzia’ variety were collected, in contrast with last year’s 9 and 14 boxes produced, respectively..

The white grapes are being transported to the winery of the Gerovassiliou estate, to produce the “Gorgona” (‘Mermaid’), the wine of the Municipality of Thessaloniki. The harvest of the red varieties will follow in September.

The urban vineyard of the Municipality of Thessaloniki was created in the area where the municipal machine shop used to be located, as a result of the cooperation between the Directorate of Urban Environment Management of the Municipality, the Laboratory of Viticulture of the School of Agriculture of the AUTH, and the Gerovassiliou Estate.
