Following the warm reception from wine-loving members of the public at last year’s first wine auction, the House is pleased to present its new Wine Auction.
This auction of fine and rare wines, to be held on Sunday, 22 November at the bioclimatic Papagiannakos Winery in Markopoulo, Attica, a total of 25 Greek wineries will be taking part, as well as, for the first time, selected bottles of wine from France, Italy, Spain and the USA.
How to participate
Anyone present at the Papagiannakos Winery on the day and at the time of the auction may take part. Furthermore, interested parties may participate by submitting a written or telephone bid, as well as online – live via the House’s website, www.vergosauctions.com.
The scope of this year’s event has expanded significantly, both through the increased presence of leading Greek wineries, showcasing wines straight from their cellars and the winemakers’ personal collections, and through the participation of top producers from the international wine-growing world.
The 139 unique selections in the catalogue take the drinker on a fascinating journey through the world of fine wine, featuring bottles that are extremely difficult to find on the market, such as, amongst others, three labels from the Hatzidakis Estate, which were vinified by Charidimos Hatzidakis himself before his untimely death some ten years ago; the 9-litre 2018 Kokkinomylos from the Tselepos Estate; the 6-litre ‘Megas Oinos’ 2003 from the Skoura Estate, and the 3-litre bottle from the Katsaros Estate 2007 with its hand-painted label. Also of particular interest are the rare Vinsanto wines from the Argyrou Estate, from the 1956 and 1978 vintages.
Iconic names such as Château Pétrus, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and E. Guigal underline the auction’s international standing. Their participation lends the event an international dimension, bringing the Greek wine-loving public into contact with wines that have shaped the history and reputation of the world’s great wine-growing regions.
Andreas Vergos, Managing Director of VERGOS Auctions, said of the wine auction: “With this second wine auction, we are continuing our initiative to showcase the dynamism of Greek viticulture, with increased participation from domestic wineries. At the same time, we are introducing the public to selected wines from renowned wine-producing regions abroad, such as Burgundy and Bordeaux – a first for the Greek secondary market. Our aim is to establish an institution that will offer wine lovers a different way to discover, select and purchase wines, drawing on our company’s experience and reputation.”
