On Monday, March 11th, the award ceremony of the “Karolos Koun” Awards 2022/23 took place at the emblematic Olympia Theatre, Municipal Music Theatre “Maria Callas”, in the presence of the Mayor of Athens Harris Doukas, as well as the 2022/23 Theatre and Music Critics’ Awards, organized by the Municipality of Athens through the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens and the Association of Greek Theatre and Music Critics.

The Theatre Jury 2022/23 is composed of theatre critics: Leandros Polenakis (chairman), Kostas Zisis, Maria Mari, Nikos Batsikanis and Konstantinos Bouras, while the Music Jury is composed of music critics: Kyriakos Loukakos (chairman), Athanasios Vavlidas, Dimitrios Kioussopoulos, Thanos Mantzanas and Thomas Tamvakos.



For Directing a Greek Play: Thanasis Sarantos for Oedipus Rex

Performance in a Greek play: Veronica Davaki for “Marika Ninou”

Dramaturgy of a Greek play: Mania Papadimitriou for “Smyrna, my Manitsa!”


Grand Prize for Theatre: Manos Vakousis – for his performance in Eric-Emanuel Schmitt’s play “The Visitor” and for his long-standing contribution to Greek theatre

Ancient Drama Award: Dimitris Katalifos – for Oedipus at Colonus at the ancient theatre of Epidaurus

Theatrical Literature Award: ‘The Poet and the Tyrant. The confrontation between Friedrich Hilderlin and Sophocles” by Simeon Stamboulos (published by the Association for the dissemination of useful books).

International Theatre Repertory Award: Christos Theodorides – for the performance “Who Killed My Father” by Edouard Louis

Award to a Young Artist of the Theatre: Valeria Demetriadou – for her play “And God planted paradise”


Grand Prize for Music: Dimitris Yakas (did not accept the award)

Musicological Textbook Award: “History of Music in Modern Greece” (Volume A) edited by +Charis Xanthoudakis, Panos Vlagopoulos, Kostas Kardamis, Stella Kourbana (published by the Athens Conservatory) – for the systematic presentation of Greek music creation and the transition to a new view of its history

Award in Recording Work of Greek Interest: “Bridges” with violinist Danae Papamatthaiou-Matske and pianist Uwe Matske (released by BIS) – for the quality of the performances and the fidelity of the recordings

Award to a Cultural Organisation of the Periphery: Association of Friends of the Municipal Philharmonic of Trikala – for its action in support of the orchestra and the album on the history of the Municipal Philharmonic of Trikala

Award to a Young Music Artist: Hector Tartanis – for the concert of the head of the CTO at the Athens Concert Hall (2-12-2022)
