The contract of concession of the former Italian Barracks by the Public Property Company to the Municipality of Chania, signed on November 11, 2024, the Mayor of Chania Panagiotis Simandirakis, marking the beginning of the implementation of the new City Hall of Chania, in the building of the former Italian Barracks (beginning of Tzanakaki Street).

During the signing of the contract, which took place at the Mayor’s Office, also present were the Deputy Mayor of Finance, Tasos Aloglou, the Deputy Mayor of Technical Services, Michael Kalogridakis, the Deputy Mayor of Local Economy and Development, Yannis Nikiforakis, the former Chairman of the Board of Directors and partner of the Mayor, Eftihis Damianakis, and the Director of Technical Services of the City of Chania, George Efthymiou.

“For a claim of decades that becomes action” spoke of the Mayor of Chania, P. Simandirakis, who stressed that: “now, the former Italian Barracks are coming into the use of the Municipality of Chania and this emblematic building gets the road to be exploited and operate as the new City Hall of the city, worthy of the architecture and history of our city.” The Mayor of Chania stressed that: “one after another, our great claims are being implemented. It is a great collective success and in a few years the citizens will be able to see all these buildings come back to life and we will be able to talk about a completely renewed image of the Municipality of Chania.”
