With the aid and support of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the “FIRST LEGO League Virtual Open International” Robotics and Innovation Championship, which took place for the first time in Greece, was completed on Sunday, June 27.
In a relevant statement, the Deputy Mayor of Education of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Ioanna Kosmopoulou, noted:
“It is not the first time that the Municipality of Thessaloniki supports an action of the FIRST LEGO League. Since 2017, it has been continuously supporting the Panhellenic Robotics and Innovation Championship FIRST LEGO League, but this day marks the institution’s greatest moment. A total of 1,600 students and 200 coaches from 110 countries around the world participated, and thus – in addition to the substantial involvement of young people in this celebration of technology and innovation – will also commemorate the 200 years from the beginning of the Greek struggle for national independence, which led to the birth of a European state with institutions and laws […]. And today it is actively entering the global map of technology and development. But the most important thing about this institution is the engagement and participation of a large number of young people from all over the world, a participation that looks beyond borders, stereotypes and all kinds of inequality, a participation that brings hope, and brings us close in spite of physical distances.
