A very special classmate, the adorable Axel, was welcomed today by the children attending the special primary school of the School for the Blind. The introductions of the young students with Axel were made by the Mayor of Thessaloniki Konstantinos Zervas, who was at the school together with the Deputy Mayor of Education IoannaKosmopoulou, on the occasion of the launch of the educational program on animal welfare in schools, which is implemented by the Municipality of Thessaloniki in cooperation with the AMKE Zoological School Information (ZO.E.S.).

To go to school today, Axel put on his bow tie. He taught the children from the special elementary school of the School for the Blind the value of coexistence with animals, empathy, unconditional love and responsibility. The children thanked him in their own special way, offering him generous caresses and treats.

In addition, the young students of the special primary school of the School for the Blind showed great interest in the story of Axel, which was told to them by the founder of AMKE Z.E.S. Katerina Papapostolou. Axel was a stray and had suffered abuse. But with the positive education he received after his rescue, he has been involved in animal welfare programs in schools, working mainly with children attending special education schools.

The pro-animal program implemented by the Municipality of Thessaloniki in cooperation with AMKE ZO.E.S. will evolve into special schools by the end of this school year. From September Axel, together with Dioni and Pothos – two more dogs that were stray and abused, but were rescued and received special training – will visit general education schools in the administrative boundaries of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
