The gardens of MOMUS—the Museum of Contemporary Art at TIF-HELEXPO—are filled with art, music, and people who help shape Thessaloniki’s contemporary cultural identity—as another… ray of sunshine—on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to midnight, in an open invitation to everyone!
LIAKADA is a new summer initiative by MOMUS that aims to become an annual institution, bringing together the city’s creative voices in an open celebration of connection, inclusion, and contemporary creation. Inspired by Giorgos Zongolopoulos’s iconic work “Umbrellas,” contemporary artists from Thessaloniki present their works in a pop-up exhibition in the gardens of the MOMUS Museum of Contemporary Art, along with live visual and interactive performances that transform the museum’s outdoor space into a vibrant arena of artistic expression.
On Wednesday, July 1, admission to MOMUS—Museum of Contemporary Art—will be free to the public, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and visitors will have the opportunity to explore the museum’s permanent exhibition and the venues hosting the 9th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, both at the museum and at Pavilions 2 & 3. From 6:00 p.m. until midnight, the MOMUS Art Café will provide refreshing drinks and the evening’s musical program, enhancing the relaxed, summery atmosphere.
LIAKADA draws its inspiration from Giorgos Zongolopoulos’s iconic “Umbrellas” and the concept of the “artistic umbrella” as an open space for meeting, hospitality, and the exchange of experiences. Through this new initiative, MOMUS opens its gardens at the Museum of Contemporary Art and embraces Thessaloniki’s contemporary artists, highlighting the city’s vibrant creative community and inviting the public to experience it firsthand. LIAKADA brings together different generations, practices, and voices in contemporary art in a celebration that places artists at the center and reinforces the museum’s role as an open, vibrant meeting place for the entire city.
Artist and curator Eleni Simoni is responsible for curating the exhibition and providing creative direction for the event.
