An innovative exhibition of comics inspired by Euripides’ Trojan Women is organized by the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation entitled ” Trojan Women: Struggle in the Ruins“. The 25 talented participating artists attempt to narrate the relationship between ancient tragedy and modern horror, highlighting, through their comics, challenges of modern times, from wars, terrorist attacks and massacres to femicide and the rise of violence. The exhibition opens on Thursday 12 September and will run until 26 September 2024.
The comic exhibition is part of the programme “Ancient Drama: Between Tragedy and Terror”, organized by the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, in collaboration with McGill University of Canada and leading universities of the world, such as British Columbia, Berkley, University of California Santa Cruz, etc.
The Michael Cacoyannis Foundation’s institution for Ancient Drama, which this year is in its twelfth year, will take place from 12-26 September 2024 and includes, in addition to the comics exhibition, the theatrical performance Tutto Brucia (All Ashes), also inspired by Euripides’ Trojan Women, as well as a series of workshops, hybrid seminars and forums, all starting with the connection between ancient tragedy and horror.
This year’s exhibition, which is the third in a row with the same theme, completes the cycle of the programme dedicated to the art of comics and the promotion and exploitation of the ninth art for the promotion of ancient drama to a wider young audience, with a familiar and popular medium that combines the word with the image, the visual arts with political and social commentary.
